While shellfish aren’t fruit, many languages refer to them as “fruits of the sea”. This piece pictures oysters (Ostrea edulis), scampi (Nephrops norvegicus) mussels (Mytilus edulis), and sea snails (Hinia reticulata). Oysters are known for their aphrodisiac qualities, while mussels represent the vulva and creation. Scampi, which reproduce quickly, are symbolic of fertility and transformation. Sea snails, with their micro-pace, remind us to be patient and methodical in order to enjoy the fruits of our labour.
